The Street Legends Brass Band is a New Orleans funk/hip-hop stage brass band — the Blue Nile's own description of a group that brings the second-line brass tradition into a Frenchmen Street clubroom with a modern set. Their standing date is Sunday night at the Blue Nile, 532 Frenchmen Street, where they hold down a regular late show.
The Blue Nile has carved out its corner of Frenchmen Street with a wide-ranging book of New Orleans music, and the Street Legends' Sundays are part of the room's weekly rhythm — free admission for 21-and-up with a valid ID and drink purchases, the classic Frenchmen Street deal.
It is the working-band circuit the brass band tradition was built on: a standing room, a standing night, and a crowd that expects the band to bring it. The band's September 27 date is this Sunday's edition, and they also hold the room's New Year's Eve balcony party.
