Reggae, Ska, and Rock from New Orleans Veterans

FireBrain is a New Orleans-based roots rock, ska, and reggae band led by scene maker Ru Williams. The group is a veteran collective featuring musicians from other local outfits — including 4 For Nothing, The Uppressors, and the Jamaican Me Breakfast Club — with players also associated with the Creole String Beans and Cha Wa.

Their sound blends classic Jamaican reggae rhythms and punchy ska upstrokes with tight horn lines and the gritty feel of their Louisiana roots. Their 2022 album Brain Theory, released on Righteous Path, put eleven originals on record — and Louisiana Music Factory stocks the CD in the French Quarter.

"Reggae, ska, and rock comes easy to these New Orleans reggae veterans."

— Louisiana Music Factory

The band has released more than 25 songs on streaming platforms from a catalog spanning the past 30 years, and its official site promotes the New Orleans Ska Sessions — a sign of how central the band is to the city's reggae and ska scene. FireBrain regularly shares bills with fellow local favorites, including Cha Wa at Chickie Wah Wah.
