Why We Love Da Truth Brass Band

Da Truth Brass Band is the brass band tradition doing what it has always done: showing up. Weddings, second lines, corporate gigs, concert halls — this is a working band in the classic mold, and New Orleans runs on bands like this one. Led by bandleader Travis Carter, they bring the street beat indoors without sanding off any of its edges, and they've earned stages from the Jazz Museum's balcony to the Superdome floor. When a band can move from a Mardi Gras balcony blowout with the Brasshoppers to backing Doug E. Fresh at ESSENCE Fest, that's not range — that's the job, done right.

Biography

The Truth About the Second Line

Led by bandleader Travis Carter, Da Truth Brass Band is a working New Orleans brass band in the classic mold: trumpets, trombones, sousaphone, and drums carrying the second-line beat from the street into weddings, corporate events, cocktail hours, and concert halls across the New Orleans area.

The band has become a familiar face on the New Orleans Jazz Museum's balcony concert series, sharing the bill with dance groups like the Brasshoppers and holding down the city's second-line culture week in and week out. Bigger stages have followed: in 2025 Da Truth took the played the 2025 ESSENCE Festival of Culture alongside Doug E. Fresh, and in 2026 the band joins the lineup of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
