Why We Love Bucktown All-Stars

Every city has a party band; New Orleans has the Bucktown All-Stars, and there is no comparison. Since 1992 this nine-man wrecking crew out of Metairie has turned weddings, Mardi Gras balls, fundraisers, and corporate galas into full-contact celebrations — raspy vocals, rollicking piano, a horn section with a corrupt sense of fun, and a songbook that runs from Otis Redding to Van Morrison to Sinatra without losing the second-line thread. Their Rock ’n’ Bowl sets are legendary, their trophy case is overflowing, and their unofficial motto says it all: rock and roll and horn-powered R&B catching a parade at a tailgate party where somebody gets married. Book them, and get out of the way.

New Orleans' Number One Party Band

Based in Metairie, the nine-man Bucktown All-Stars built their reputation on raspy vocals, rollicking piano, and a horn section that pulls guests up onstage — a mix of second line funk and Motown soul honed over regular sets at Rock 'n' Bowl in Mid-City. The band describes its sound simply: 1960s classic R&B and soul, '70s funk, and New Orleans music mixed with laughs and an attitude that says let's party.

Since forming in 1992, the Bucktown All-Stars have become the go-to party band for weddings, Mardi Gras balls, fundraisers, galas, festivals, and corporate events across greater New Orleans and beyond, with instrumentation modeled after the Motown and R&B soul groups of the 1960s and 70s that lets them move stylistically from Otis Redding to Van Morrison to Sinatra. The band has won the Gambit Readers Poll's “Best Band That Doesn't Fit Any Of These Categories” multiple times and collected ten OffBeat Magazine Best of the Beat awards, along with being named New Orleans' Favorite Local Band by New Orleans Magazine readers in 2000 and 2009.
