Trombonist Winston Turner cut his teeth in New Orleans' deepest brass institutions — the St. Augustine High School Marching 100, Southern University's Human Jukebox, the Pinstripes Brass Band, and more than a decade with The Soul Rebels — before forming the Brass-A-Holics in 2010. His vision: combine the core New Orleans brass elements of trumpet, trombone, and saxophone with a full drum kit, keyboard, electric bass and guitar, and the funk grooves of Washington D.C. go-go music.
Turner drafted fellow Soul Rebel Tannon “Fish” Williams on trumpet to help build the sound, and the band has since shared stages with Allen Toussaint, Public Enemy, The Black Keys, Hall & Oates, Trombone Shorty, and Dr. John, along with creative collaborations with Rockin' Dopsie Jr., Big Freedia, and The Chuck Brown Band. The Brass-A-Holics tour internationally, having performed in Miami, Washington D.C., New York, Brazil, and Israel, bringing New Orleans' brass tradition into direct conversation with go-go, funk, and pop.
