Sally Baby'sSilver Dollars

Sally Baby's Silver Dollars grew out of weekly residencies at BJ's Lounge in the 9th Ward, building a devoted word-of-mouth following before breaking into larger visibility. The band is built around Salvatore Geloso — known as "Sally Baby" — a singer, guitarist, composer, and New Orleans jazz tour guide whose deep knowledge of the city's musical history informs every song he writes.

The band's self-titled 2025 debut EP was recorded at Big Tone Studios in New Orleans by producer Jon Atkinson and released to glowing reviews. Their sound blends the bounce of early Creole jazz bands with New Orleans R&B, second line energy, calypso, and Geloso's rich, expressive baritone — music that sounds like a classic even when it's brand new.

In early 2026 the band recorded a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR — bringing national visibility to music that had already made them one of the most talked-about acts in New Orleans. They have performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the French Quarter Festival, and at festivals across the country from California's High Sierra to upstate New York.

Lead songwriter Geloso describes the band's inspirations running from traditional jazz and brass band music to the music of Cuba and Haiti and West African guitarists of the 1970s — all streams that have always fed into New Orleans. Sally Baby's Silver Dollars makes the case, joyfully, that the tradition is very much alive.
