New Orleans street band Tuba Skinny have spent more than fifteen years playing the city's streets and stages with an authenticity and musical depth that has made them one of the most beloved bands in contemporary traditional jazz — a group who sound like they could have been playing in the 1920s while remaining entirely of the present.
Biography
Tuba Skinny formed in 2009 around singer Shaye Cohn and quickly became a fixture on the streets of New Orleans, playing with a raw, un-amplified energy that captures the spontaneous joy of early New Orleans jazz. Their recordings, made with minimal studio polish, document a band with an extraordinary ear for the blues feeling that underlies all great New Orleans music. They have toured extensively in Europe and across the United States, introducing audiences to the deep roots of New Orleans music with performances that consistently leave listeners astonished at what a small group of dedicated musicians can do with simple instruments and genuine feeling.
