Born in Baton Rouge, Kristin Diable began her musical career as a young teenager playing underground clubs in south Louisiana. At eighteen she moved to New York City, expanding her musical palette and earning mainstream industry attention for the first time. But she followed her muse home in the late 2000s, settling in New Orleans in 2009 and founding her own Speakeasy Records.
Biography
A Southern Original’s Own Mythology
She released the solo EP Extended Play in 2009, followed by the album Kristin Diable and the City in 2012, which drew regional acclaim and placed songs in episodes of HBO’s True Blood and Treme. Her third full-length and first national release, Create Your Own Mythology (2015, Speakeasy/Thirty Tigers), was produced by Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell), premiered on NPR’s First Listen, and earned four stars from American Songwriter — “look for Kristin Diable to be one of the year’s breakout artists.” Singles “I’ll Make Time for You” and “Honey, Leave the Light On” carried the record, the latter featured in season seven of Hawaii Five-0.
Beyond the stage, her songs have appeared in Magnum P.I., MacGyver, Netflix’s Virgin River, and Amazon’s One Mississippi; she co-wrote and starred in the award-winning short film Forever Waves. An annual feature at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Diable is also a professor and songwriter at Loyola University New Orleans, mentoring the next generation of Louisiana musicians. Her recent album Impossible Things celebrated its release at Chickie Wah Wah.
