Kinfolk Brass Band was founded by brothers Percy Anderson (trumpet, saxophone, vocals) and Richard Anderson (brass, vocals) in 2005, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Playing a style that encompasses and melds Mardi Gras Indian chants, New Orleans funk, modern jazz, and traditional brass band sounds, Kinfolk placed itself at the forefront of the New Orleans brass band renaissance from day one.
