DJ RQ Away is a native of New Orleans who grew up immersed in local radio and any television program that played music, developing an early love for house, new wave, hip-hop, R&B, pop, funk, disco, gospel, reggae, jazz, rock, bounce, and Europop — genre never mattered to him as much as feeling. He never saw DJing in his future, but has now spent a decade building a career and reputation around exactly that eclectic taste.
Across intimate downtown New Orleans venues, neighborhood bars in Brooklyn, and pubs in London, RQ Away has made a name for himself as someone who can create a distinct vibe wherever he spins. He has shared stages with major artists including Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper, Bilal, and The Foreign Exchange, and hosts LAGNIAPPE, his recurring event series at Tipitina's, which has featured guest artists like Sean Falyon and André Power, with proceeds often benefiting local causes and organizations.
Beyond his work behind the decks, DJ RQ Away founded and leads #AWAYTEAM, a New Orleans-based brand and support collective built to strengthen community ties through dance, curated experiences, apparel, and educational and community-building workshops. It's a project born from his desire to use his following for more than entertainment alone — cementing him as both a beloved DJ and a genuine community leader within the Crescent City.
