New Orleans Soul Funk

Formed in 2010, Boukou Groove is a New Orleans funk, soul, and jam band composed of veteran vocalist, keyboardist, and Moog Bass player Donnie Sundal and guitarist Derwin "Big D" Perkins. The combination of Big D's gripping N'Awlins funk guitar and Sundal's wailing keyboards and blue-eyed soul voice has lit up audiences around the world.

That chemistry is distilled into their albums A Lil' Boukou in Your Cup (2012), Let the Groove Ride (2015), the single "Never Steal Our Thunder" (2019), and the Groovin' LP (2023). "Two To Tango" — with a piano solo from Jon Cleary — has drawn millions of Spotify plays, and "Stay Broke" was named 2012 Song of the Year by Japan's Peter Barakan.

Boukou Groove brings its brand of "New Orleans Soul Funk" to the Maple Leaf and Tipitina's, to festivals and clubs nationwide, and across two tours in Japan, including the Live Magic! Festival and Blue Note Tokyo. The band made its debut at the 50th New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2019.
