Authorized in 1994, New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is one of the few National Park Service sites in the country devoted entirely to an art form. Its mission is to preserve and share the story of jazz's origins and evolution in the city where it was born.
The park's visitor operations include exhibits on jazz pioneers including Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton, alongside ranger-led educational programs for families and school groups.
The park works with the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the historic Old U.S. Mint, and some park programming takes place at the museum.
