Treces Del Sur embodies the multi-national makeup of Latino history in New Orleans. The orchestra's members represent Spanish, Caribbean, South American and North American diasporas — Mexican vocalist and guitarist Lydian, Cuban vocalist Rachel, Honduran musical director and sax player Ronald, and Puerto Rican conga and tumbas player Ignacio among them — united by a desire to keep Spanish-language music thriving in the Crescent City.
The band plays it all: salsa, merengue, cumbia, bachata, punta and reguetón, from the first song to the last with the crowd dancing. That versatility has made them a fixture at corporate events, festivals, weddings and quinceañeras across the region, including a weekly summer-and-fall residency at the House of Blues, Gretna Heritage Festival, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and French Quarter clubs like the Balcony Music Club.
As Ignacio told OffBeat Magazine, the reaction they love most comes from locals who can't believe a band this good is homegrown: “We live and are based in New Orleans!” They are Treces Del Sur — New Orleans' own Latin orchestra, entertaining, promoting their culture and, most importantly, having fun.
