The Voice of the Swamp Blues

Tab Benoit was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1967 and grew up absorbing the blues and swamp music of the region. He developed his guitar style in Houma, Louisiana, and his playing reflects the deep grooves and atmospheric quality of south Louisiana music — the sound of the bayou made electric.

Benoit began recording in the early 1990s and quickly established himself as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary blues. His guitar tone — thick, warm, and singing — and his powerful voice set him apart from the beginning. His early albums on Justice Records built a devoted following.

"The blues in Louisiana has its own sound. It's got the water in it, the bayou, the heat. You can't fake that."

— Tab Benoit

He has recorded extensively and toured relentlessly throughout his career, building one of the most loyal followings in blues music. His live performances are known for their intensity — Benoit is one of those rare performers who leaves everything on the stage every night. He has won multiple Blues Music Awards.

Benoit is also a passionate environmentalist, founding the nonprofit Voice of the Wetlands to advocate for the preservation of Louisiana's coastal wetlands. His commitment to his home state extends beyond music to the literal landscape that produced the sound he plays.
