Seva Venet is a banjoist and guitarist active in the New Orleans music scene. He performs on banjo and guitar with the Treme Brass Band, Greg Stafford and the Jazz Hounds, Dr. Michael White, Tommy Sancton, Clive Wilson, and Lars Edegran — and leads his own band, the Storyville Stringband.
Beyond performing, Venet is a composer and a music teacher in the New Orleans public schools. Since Katrina, hundreds of his public-school students have learned music and music integration through his work, and many of them have gone on to perform at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
He is an endorsed artist with the Deering Banjo Company, performing on Vega Senator and Boston 6-string banjos — instruments he puts to work channeling the spirit of Danny Barker and Django Reinhardt in his traditional jazz stylings.
