Raised in churches, juke joints, and tent revivals in Louisiana and Mississippi by a preacher, guitar-playing father and a folk-songwriter mother, Serabee came up with roadhouse blues and rollicking revivals in her blood. She writes and plays piano in a tradition that invites comparisons to Ray Charles, Professor Longhair, and Dr. John, while her bring-the-house-down singing has been likened to Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Susan Tedeschi.
Before she was a French Quarter fixture, Serabee was a Nashville songwriter whose 'Crazy Chick' became Charlotte Church's first top-ten hit — reaching No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart — and she starred in the first season of NBC's 'The Voice.' Her album 'Hummingbird Tea,' released on Louisiana's Rabadash Records in 2022, was named a favorite album of 2022 by Americana Highways and won her Making a Scene's 2023 Independent Blues Award for Best New Artist.
The Roots Revival Band — currently Serabee on vocals, piano, and keyboard bass, Mark Levron on trumpet and vocals, Jon Cristian Duque on guitar and vocals, and Ezell 'E.Z.' Smith on drums — grew out of a Wednesday-night show at the Bourbon O Bar designed to tighten up the band and return to her Southern, soulful roots. The band honors the legacy of original drummer Russell Batiste Jr., who passed in 2023.
Think, if Professor Longhair and Etta James had a baby, it might well be SERABEE!
