The son of David Batiste of the internationally renowned Batiste Brothers Band, Ryan began playing drums at age four; Modern Drummer magazine dubbed him a “future groove master” when he was nine. He came up through the Louis Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp and graduated from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and Dillard University.
Raw Revolution began as a collective of friends — some on instruments, some rapping — and evolved into Batiste's band and brand. He transitioned from drums to piano and production, releasing keyboard-driven work like the album Twilight, and has shared stages with Bonnie Raitt, Jill Scott, Public Enemy, Drake, Trombone Shorty, Dee-1, Irma Thomas and Burnell Worrell of P-Funk.
In 2019 he launched the L.O.C.A.L.S’ Fest in Armstrong Park — a free community festival highlighting New Orleans-bred musicians, small businesses and Louisiana grassroots culture — and in 2017 he opened the Jazz Fest Acura Stage with Batiste Fathers & Sons. His most recent listed date is French Quarter Festival, April 2026.
