Rachel Jordan is a classical violinist, producer, and artistic director — and the fifth performer from one of New Orleans' great musical families. The daughter of saxophonist Edward 'Kidd' Jordan, her siblings include flutist Kent, trumpeter Marlon, and vocalist Stephanie Jordan. She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's of Music from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, studying with Berl Senofsky.
Jordan spent 12 years as a member of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and has served as Professor of Violin at Jackson State University and adjunct faculty at Xavier, Southern, Dillard, and Loyola universities in New Orleans. She performs on and was the executive producer of the Marlon Jordan featuring Stephanie Jordan CD You Don't Know What Love Is, and founded Rj Records in 2005, an independent label where all sales go directly to the artist.
She is the founding director and artistic director of the Music Alive Ensemble, a New Orleans-based blend of classical and jazz musicians, composers, and arrangers whose concerts find common ground between the two traditions. She also started the Jesse Dent Recital series at Dillard, featuring African American musicians performing classical music, and produces the annual 'An Afternoon of Classical Music' chamber series.
