Stephanie Jordan is a jazz vocalist from New Orleans' renowned Jordan musical family — the fifth performer in the family and the daughter of saxophonist Edward 'Kidd' Jordan, with siblings Kent (flutist), Marlon (trumpeter), and Rachel (classical violinist). A Howard University graduate mentored by the legendary vocalist Shirley Horn, she has performed alongside Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, and Ellis Marsalis, and she played the inaugural International Jazz Day all-star sunrise concert in Congo Square in 2012.
She gained national recognition for her moving rendition of 'Here's to Life' during the nationally televised reopening of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Her credits include singing the National Anthem at the 2008 NBA All-Star Game, a role in the film Paperboy, a performance at Chicago's Harris Theater standing in for Ledisi, the Kennedy Center, and a U.S. Jazz Ambassadors tour of Europe for the State Department and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Her big band's 2012 tribute album Yesterday When I Was Young: A Tribute to Lena Horne (Vige Music) had its Jazz Fest moment too: she performed at the 2015 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival with the band in the presence of President Obama. Offstage she is the creator of Jazz Pilates and a choir director and vocal instructor at a local elementary school. She is a Jazz Fest regular and plays Snug Harbor with her big band and small ensemble.
