Biography
Michael Burkart — Mikey B3, for the Hammond B3 he plays — is a New Orleans native organist, keyboardist, and singer, born and raised in Arabi in St. Bernard Parish. An official Hammond Family recording and touring artist, he built his reputation playing Bourbon and Frenchman streets, developing his style on reggae and street brass bands.
He fronts the Mikey B3 Band, a power trio with Craig Alexander on guitar and Herman Halphen on drums, dealing in what the Maple Leaf Bar calls a New Orleans Southern blend of blues, funk, rock, and bayou swamp. He's shared stages and studios with the Wild Magnolias, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Anders Osborne, and George Porter Jr., and his festival history runs from Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest to Satchmo Summer Fest.
