Born in Yazoo City and raised in Carriere, Mississippi, Lynn Drury moved to New Orleans in 1995 with the dream of becoming a singer-songwriter. She picked up the guitar at 26, taking lessons with local musician Chris Wood, and hit the open mics at the Howlin' Wolf and Tipitina's. In 1998 she landed a weekly spot at Margaritaville, playing opposite legends like Eddie Bo and Chris Thomas King for five years, and earned her first band slot at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2003.
Her debut Crossing Frequencies (2001) was followed by Blackberry Winter (2002) and Spun (2003) with her band Bad Mayo; OffBeat dubbed Spun the Best New Release of 2003 and named her Best Emerging Singer/Songwriter in 2004. All You Need (2006), produced by Jimbo Mathus, earned a Big Easy Award nomination. Displaced by Hurricane Katrina, she finished the record at Delta Recording in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She went on to release Dal Vivo (2009, live in Italy with Roberto Luti), Sugar on the Floor (2011, produced by Carlo Nuccio), Come to My House (2014, produced by 13-time Grammy winner John Porter), and Rise of the Fall (2017, co-produced with Iguanas bassist Rene Coman) — her national debut, which Glide Magazine rated 8/10.
Her tenth album, High Tide (April 2024), was produced by Papa Mali and cut at Dockside Studio with Doug Belote and Rene Coman, featuring Yvette Landry, Roddie Romero, and Jason Mingledorff. OffBeat calls her 'a strong, independent woman who refuses to be thrown out of the saddle'; No Depression dubs her 'the master of the world-weary ballad.' She hosts the long-running NOLAmericana songwriter series at Loa Bar in the International House Hotel and remains a fixture at French Quarter Fest and Jazz Fest.
