Keiko Komaki was born and raised in Kagoshima, Japan, and began studying classical piano with her aunt at the age of five. She graduated from Kunitachi College of Music and worked in Tokyo's music scene before making the move to New Orleans in 2006 to chase her musical dreams.
It wasn't long before she was performing with some of the city's legendary musicians, cutting her chops under blues maven Big Marva Wright and bandleader Benny Turner, and playing with Leo Nocentelli, George Porter Jr., Vasti Jackson, Marc Stone, Sam Price & the True Believers, and Leon 'Kid Chocolate' Brown, among many others.
In 2014 Komaki joined the Playing For Change Band, the international music project, touring 23 countries across Europe, Australia, Japan, and South America, and appearing in widely viewed videos including 'The Weight' with Ringo Starr and Robbie Robertson. She leads her own projects, the KJD Trio and Komaki Soul, plays weekly sets around town, and is a regular at WWOZ's Piano Night at the House of Blues.
