Julian Primeaux was born in 1984 in Lafayette, Louisiana, and grew up in south Louisiana in a family of musicians. He began playing guitar at age eight and was performing regularly by twelve. In the early 2000s he became actively involved in the Louisiana music scene, playing in various groups before focusing on solo recording and touring — and he never slowed down from there.
Primeaux released his debut album, Flowers From My Bones, in 2009, followed by Rock 'n' Roll Boy (2011), This Guilded, Swaying Heart (2016), Songs for the Heart of Sister Flute (2023) and Spinning Heartache Into Gold (2025), the final chapter in his trilogy of records about the human heart. He has performed with Gary Clark Jr., Dr. John, Dick Dale, Rev. Horton Heat, Dax Riggs, Sonny Landreth, Anders Osborne, Lil' Nathan & the Zydeco Big Timers and Corey Ledet.
In 2022 Primeaux earned a Grammy nomination for Best Regional Roots Music Album (for his work on Corey Ledet's nominated album), and in 2024 he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and featured as a spotlight artist on NPR's World Cafe. He played the 2023 French Quarter Festival, headlined the Maple Leaf Bar in April 2026, and plays the Den at Howlin' Wolf — bringing his electric sermons home to New Orleans.
