Baton Rouge’s Blues-Rock Road Warrior

Raised in a Southern Baptist community in Baton Rouge, Long picked up the guitar at six and developed into a singer, songwriter, and six-string showman in the classic blues-rock mold — equal parts grit and flash. In 2011 he won Guitar Center’s King of the Blues competition as the best unsigned blues guitarist in America, a title that put his name in front of B.B. King, who took notice and brought Long out for a string of tour dates.

The résumé since reads like a blues-rock dream bill: Long has shared stages with B.B. King, Joe Bonamassa, Gov’t Mule, Gregg Allman, ZZ Top, Robert Cray, Dr. John, The Meters, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Four albums deep, he’s put two records into Billboard’s Blues Top 10, earned his induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, and been honored with his own day in Baton Rouge. He plays New Orleans regularly — Jazz Fest, and the New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Festival at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, where he headlined the 2026 edition — and he got his Jazz Fest break the old-fashioned way, introduced to producer Quint Davis through the Rock-N-Bowl.

A Boogie Long show is built for volume and sweat: high-energy blues-rock with a Southern rock and soul streak, honed over years of touring across the U.S. and Europe. If you want to hear what Baton Rouge blues-rock sounds like right now, he’s the name.

“Some are weekend warriors, some of us are lifers, and I’m a lifer.”
