A Voice Built on Bourbon Street

Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph grew up in New Orleans with artists like Irma Thomas as role models. She made her performance debut singing “O Holy Night” in 12th grade, then cut her chops in Bourbon Street clubs and appeared on American Idol before partnering with friend Tarriona “Tank” Ball as a backing vocalist in the Grammy-nominated Tank and the Bangas.

She is best known as the lead singer of Galactic, the New Orleans funk band, fronting their tours and their singles “Float Up” (2020) and “Ready for Me” — the latter from the band’s Tchompitoulas EP (2023), where she trades verses with Cuban rapper Cimafunk. She also sang on the band’s 2020 reworking of “Something’s Wrong With This Picture” alongside Ivan Neville.

Joseph records and performs as a solo artist as well. Her hit “Fya” and the single “Getcha Sum” were made with bounce artist HaSizzle; she co-penned “Get Right or Get Left” with G-Eazy and performs “Love in Your Heart” with Cha Wa. She also sings with the all-female Original Pinettes brass band.
