Jason Neville comes by his musical talent naturally, as the son of Aaron Neville and Lirette Neville — herself the daughter of jazz percussionist Sullivan Dabney Jr. — and the brother of Ivan Neville, placing him squarely within New Orleans' famed first family of funk. His group, the Jason Neville FunkySoul Band, combines the Nevilles' longstanding traditions of funky rhythms and grooving melodies into a sound built for the stage.
The band's catalog includes the single "Hit Um With The Boogie," featuring funkadelic godfather George Clinton, pairing New Orleans funk lineage with one of the genre's defining national figures. In May 2021, the band performed for the New Orleans Jazz Museum's socially-distanced courtyard livestream concert series, with the performance dedicated to Jason and Lirette's son, Tristan Edgerson, under the theme "Funk Heals the Soul."
Jason Neville FunkySoul Band bills itself as a livemix band for New Orleans occasions of all kinds, and remains an active performer around the city, including regular appearances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival's community stages and French Quarter Fest.
