HaSizzle is a New Orleans rapper and self-proclaimed "King of Bounce," born in the Calliope projects and raised around the city. He was an early figure in the bounce music scene, combining an infectious party spirit with what he describes as "non-stop booty shakin'" rhythms to build his own distinctive sound. His work has been sampled by Drake, featured by the New Orleans Saints, and brought Crescent City flavor to Coachella.
HaSizzle frequently performs alongside To Be Continued Brass Band, known as TBC, one of New Orleans' younger-generation brass bands. TBC formed in 2002 when young men from the city's 7th and 9th Wards, seeking to avoid the drugs and violence that affected many of their peers, started a jazz and brass band at Carver and Kennedy Senior High School using instruments borrowed from the school's band director — including a tuba patched together with duct tape. The band built a following playing street corners at Bourbon and Canal in the French Quarter and leading second lines at community funerals.
In 2005, TBC caught the attention of the Grammy-winning hip-hop group The Roots, who took the band under their wing to mentor them and help develop their professional presence. Hurricane Katrina scattered TBC's members across the country and interrupted that momentum, but the band regrouped, and in 2010 the Roots-backed documentary From the Mouthpiece on Back, narrated by Kerry Washington and directed by Jason DaSilva and Colleen O'Halloran, chronicled the band's journey and commitment to New Orleans musical tradition. TBC has since collaborated with a range of artists including Questlove, Dr. Michael White, Bossman Superior, and Shamarr Allen, and HaSizzle and TBC Brass Band continue to perform together regularly at venues including Chickie Wah Wah.
