New Breed Brass Band is led by Jenard Andrews (bandleader, snare drum), whose father is the acclaimed New Orleans trumpeter James Andrews and whose uncle is Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, one of the city's most visible musical ambassadors. The band's lineup includes Revon Andrews (trombone), Mike Brooks (sousaphone), Yirma Yisrael and Orlando Gilbert (saxophone), Emanuel Mitchell and Chris Cotton (trumpet), and Tyreek Andrews and George Brown (bass drum). New Breed made their street debut in November 2013 at the Nine Times Second Line.
In their early years, the band built their sound covering Rebirth Brass Band classics before Trombone Shorty encouraged them to develop a voice of their own. What emerged draws from Cash Money Records, bounce grooves, and second-line culture alongside influences like Bruno Mars and Silk Sonic — a blend Jenard has described as wanting to bring real New Orleans street energy to wider audiences. The band has toured across North America and Europe, sharing stages with The Fray, Blackalicious, Dr. John, and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.
New Breed released their debut album, Made In New Orleans, on April 28, 2023. The record was produced by Trombone Shorty at his own Buckjump Studios and mixed and mastered by Count, whose credits include the Rolling Stones, Run the Jewels, and Radiohead. The album arrived just ahead of the band's performance at Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue's Treme Threauxdown at the Saenger Theater. New Breed continues to perform regularly around New Orleans, including annual appearances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Tipitina's.
