Ghalia Volt began her musical journey busking on the streets of Brussels, fronting the R&B outfit Ghalia & the Naphtalines and recording her first original project with Voodoo Casino in 2016. But the birthplace of the blues kept calling, and in 2013 she began busking her way through the United States — Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, Nashville, then the Deep South, becoming a familiar presence in Clarksdale, Mississippi and playing the town’s Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival three years running.

"a natural-born star"
— Henry Yates, NME / Classic Rock, on Mississippi BlendMississippi Blend (2019), recorded in Coldwater, Mississippi with regional luminaries Cody Dickinson, Watermelon Slim, and Cedric Burnside, broke into the Billboard Blues Top 3. Then came the audacious One Woman Band (2021) — Volt singing and playing slide guitar while working kick and snare drums with her feet, a format born on the road during the pandemic — and Shout Sister Shout! (2023), which hit number two on the Billboard Blues chart, her third straight Top 3 release. She’s toured Ruf Records’ Blues Caravan revue, shared bills with Tab Benoit, and played Jazz Fest and Telluride Blues & Brews. No band, no pretense — just one woman and the blues.
