David Boeddinghaus is a classically trained pianist with a traditional jazz soul, known for bringing to life the sounds of classic artists like Jelly Roll Morton and Fats Waller. He has toured the world, from touring with Pete Fountain to accompanying Leon Redbone on Johnny Carson's 'Tonight Show,' and was a featured performer in the Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble.
Boeddinghaus is the longtime musical director and pianist for jazz vocalist Banu Gibson, touring extensively with her group the New Orleans Hot Jazz. Video documentation from the 1991 Pensacola Jazz Festival lists him as the band's pianist and arranger, and the group's tours took them to the Hollywood Bowl, Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion, and the Boston Pops.
Still active on the New Orleans scene, Boeddinghaus was filmed performing in a trio with trumpeter Duke Heitger aboard the Steamboat Natchez in December 2024, and he appears on WWOZ Piano Night bills alongside the city's leading traditional pianists.
