Born June 21, 1970, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural and Patricia Coleman Dural, Sir Reg grew up immersed in music, learning instruments by ear the same way his father had. At seventeen he joined his father's band on rubboard, and over the years expanded into a multi-instrumentalist role, eventually taking up the Hammond B-3 organ and his father's signature piano-note accordion style. Touring internationally at his father's side, he shared stages with Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, U2, Willie Nelson, Robert Plant, and Keith Richards.
After his father's death in 2016, Buckwheat Jr. stepped into the frontman role for The Legendary Ils Sont Partis Band, the group his father built into two-time Grammy and Emmy Award winners with more than 2,500 shows and appearances on David Letterman, CBS Morning News, and Good Morning America. His 2023 debut album as bandleader, New Beginnings, blended new original songs with covers connecting directly to his father's repertoire and mentor Clifton Chenier, and the band won the 2024 Grammy Award along with two OffBeat Best of the Beat awards for Best Zydeco Artist and Best Zydeco Album. His own son, Kyle, now plays rubboard in the band, carrying the family lineage into a third generation.
