Born Brittany Guerin in Baton Rouge and now based in New Orleans, Britti was raised by her mother, whom she calls "Brown Sugar," and grandmother, "Cayenne Pepper," a bass player who loved blues, soul, and R&B. Her uncle, eminent jazz bassist Roland Guerin, performed alongside Allen Toussaint and Dr. John, and took Britti along to his gigs growing up, planting the seeds of a lifelong musical education. She sang in her school chorus and church choir before earning a degree in classical vocal performance from Loyola University.
For years, Britti worked a day job at a New Orleans music store, dreaming of being discovered — and in a genuine turn of fortune, she was, by Dan Auerbach, frontman of The Black Keys and a Grammy-winning producer who founded the label Easy Eye Sound. Auerbach produced and co-wrote her debut album, Hello, I'm Britti., released February 2, 2024, an eleven-song collection blending country-pop, 90s R&B, New Orleans horns, and Americana, led by the Sade-meets-Dolly Parton single "Nothing Compares To You." The album's session musicians included Nick Movshon (Amy Winehouse, Wu-Tang Clan), Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant & Alison Krauss), and Tom Bukovac (Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks).
The album's release earned Britti national recognition, including a spot on Rolling Stone's "Pop Stars To Watch In 2024" and SPIN's "Top Artists To Watch in 2024," along with a national television debut on CBS Saturday. With a sound that fuses her New Orleans roots with genre-blurring pop sensibility, Britti has quickly established herself as one of the most closely watched new voices to emerge from the city in recent years.
