Brice Miller was born in the Crescent City into a deep musical family — his father, Dwight Miller, played saxophone in the Original Pinstripe Brass Band. As a youngster he played in the Olympia Kids Brass Band and alongside his father in the Junior Pinstripe Brass Band, which eventually became the Mahogany Brass Band with Brice at the helm. After Hurricane Katrina he earned a doctorate, returned to New Orleans in 2017, and founded ArtsNOLA, an educational group.
The Grammy-nominated trumpeter has performed at Carnegie Hall three times, the Kennedy Center, and festivals across Europe including Umbria and North Sea, and appeared in five episodes of HBO's Treme. Back home he gigs heavily with the trad-jazz Mahogany Brass Band, sings and blows trumpet with Delfeayo Marsalis's Uptown Jazz Orchestra, and leads Ecirb Müller's Twisted Dixie — his funky, Frenchmen Street favorite spin on traditional jazz with hip-hop, funk, free jazz, go-go, and swing. His tune "I'm So New Orleans" is an anthem to the city.
In 1991, while still a student at St. Augustine High School, Miller founded the New Orleans Music Company, which remains the preeminent entertainment and cultural services provider for weddings, corporate events, and authentic second-line experiences across the city. He also plays weekly free programs for the National Park Service in the French Quarter, teaching and performing the culture he was raised in.
