Betty Winn is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, who studied instrumental and vocal music as extracurricular activities in high school and college, with her love of gospel music rooted in her upbringing in the Baptist church. She spent 21 years as a New Orleans Public School teacher before retiring to devote more time to sharing gospel music with the community. In 1995, Betty and her husband, Thomas Winn, founded One A-Chord, an extended choir of both male and female voices drawn from various churches around New Orleans, representing some of the finest gospel artists the city has to offer.
Betty Winn and One A-Chord bring an exciting display of soul-stirring traditional and modern gospel to every performance, taking audiences on a journey through the history of gospel music, from its roots in African American spirituals through contemporary sounds. The group has long been a favorite in the Gospel Tent at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, a relationship dating back to their earliest years as an ensemble, and has recorded the album Praising in New Orleans for Spirit Records.
One A-Chord maintains an active performance schedule in New Orleans and abroad, appearing frequently at church programs, festivals, theaters, conventions, and supper clubs throughout New Orleans and southeast Louisiana. The group has also taken its gospel message on tour internationally, performing in Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, France, and several Caribbean islands, carrying New Orleans' gospel tradition to audiences far beyond the city that shaped it.
