From Opera Stages to New Orleans Clubs

Anaïs St. John was raised in a musical household and trained as an opera singer, singing mezzo-soprano with the New Orleans Opera. She branched out as a solo artist, blending jazz, blues, and R&B — drawing on iconic singers like Eartha Kitt and Lola Falana, and hometown heroes like Irma Thomas and Germaine Bazzle.

St. John has developed several tribute shows honoring Donna Summer, Tina Turner, and Lulu White — the Queen of Storyville — and often weaves that material into her sets. She performs her classy, impeccable repertoire in clubs and at festivals across the city and in Europe.

"New Orleans singer and entertainer Anaïs St. John brings to life Josephine Baker's extraordinary story and wartime service."

— The National WWII Museum

The National WWII Museum's production Josephine Baker: From Creole Goddess to Siren of the Resistance was created for and stars St. John, written by Denise Altobello with musical direction by Harry Mayronne. She has also performed for the New Orleans Jazz Museum's courtyard concert series, keeping her firmly planted in the city's cultural life.
