Paul Sanchez grew up in New Orleans and came of age in its music scene in the late 1980s and 1990s, developing a songwriting voice that drew on the city's traditions while looking outward to the broader American roots music landscape. His early work with the band Cowboy Mouth brought him regional and national recognition.

After leaving Cowboy Mouth, Sanchez pursued a solo career that allowed his songwriting to deepen and expand. His albums are full of vivid New Orleans characters and stories — funny, melancholy, and always rooted in a profound love for his city.

His collaboration with Cree McCree and the show Til the Water is All Gone — a theatrical piece about Katrina and its aftermath — demonstrated the full range of his gifts as a writer and performer. He has also collaborated extensively with John Boutté and other luminaries of the Frenchmen Street scene.

Sanchez remains one of the hardest-working musicians in New Orleans, a constant presence on Frenchmen Street and at the city's festivals. His body of work is one of the most honest and affectionate portraits of New Orleans life in the American songbook.
