Honduran-born pianist Oscar Rossignoli found his musical home in New Orleans, where the Latin rhythms of his native country and the jazz tradition of the city he adopted merged into something entirely his own.
Biography
Rossignoli came to New Orleans from his native Honduras in 2015 to pursue a master's degree at the University of New Orleans, where he was named the 2015–2016 ASCAP Louis Armstrong Scholar, and quickly established himself as one of the most distinctive pianists on the scene — his playing merges post-bop jazz harmony with Afro-Latin rhythmic sensibility in a way that feels both sophisticated and deeply felt. He has recorded and performed with a wide cross-section of New Orleans musicians, and his own recordings document an artist whose sense of melody and groove is always in service of the song.
