Nat & Kat Cajun String Band was formed by Natalie Naquin (cello) and Katy Murphy (guitar) after the two friends found they shared a deep love of the early roots of Louisiana Cajun and Creole music. Based in New Orleans, the duo leans into their uncommon instrumentation while staying grounded in traditional style, creating stripped-down arrangements of classic waltzes, two-steps, reels, and ballads for cello, guitar, and vocals that are spare but sonically rich.
Equally at home fueling a dance floor or drawing in seated listeners, Nat & Kat's haunting interpretations transport audiences to moonlit bayous, sonorous cypress swamps, and dreamy live oak groves. They have performed at the Ogden Museum's Ogden After Hours, the Alliance Française's French Music Festival on International Day of La Francophonie, and Fête Française's Acoustic Backyard Stage — and as a trio with fiddler Coleman Akin at the Maison Dupuy Hotel in the French Quarter.
It's a fresh voice in Louisiana roots music: two musicians balancing driving rhythm with touching lyricism, playing the timeless Cajun and Creole songbook on instruments you don't usually hear it on.
