Miss Sophie Lee is a singer and songwriter based in New Orleans. Raised near Chicago — the daughter of a Southern Black father and a Korean mother — she moved to New Orleans in 2001 in search of its musical and culinary culture, quickly finding a home on Frenchmen Street with the New Orleans Jazz Vipers.
Lee holds a long-running weekly residency at the Spotted Cat Music Club on Frenchmen Street, where she sings speak-easy swing with her ukulele, a flower in her hair, and a band of Crescent City musicians. She is also a well-known restaurateur — one of the minds behind the Three Muses on Frenchmen.
Her four albums trace the arc: a self-titled debut in 2006 with the Jazz Vipers and Bart Ramsey, Tallulah Moon (2009), Love Street Lullaby (2013), and Traverse This Universe (2016) on her own KingMoon Recordings, a genre-spanning record made with Luke Winslow-King and more than a dozen local musicians.
