Harmonic Sensitivity on the Frenchmen Street Scene

Meghan Swartz arrived in New Orleans from Seattle and quickly embedded herself in the city’s jazz community, her propulsive sense of groove and fluid phrasing earning her a place in some of the finest working bands in town. She has performed with Leroy Jones, Mark Braud, and Charlie Gabriel’s Preservation Hall All-Stars, and has shared stages with Nicholas Payton, Wynton Marsalis, Ingrid Jensen, and Jimmy Heath, among many others.

Beyond her performing career, Swartz is an award-winning composer. She is the recipient of the ASCAP Louis Armstrong Scholar jazz composition award and the Ernest O. and Shirley N. Svenson Jazz Composition Award. Her music has appeared in episodes of the television series NCIS: New Orleans.

“Her harmonic sensitivity and fluid phrasing give listeners a window into her honesty and soulful musical sensibilities.”
