Marcia Ball is a piano-playing force of nature — a Texas-born, Louisiana-adopted artist whose rollicking blues and R&B command some of the most joyful audiences in American music. She is one of the great piano stylists of her generation.

Biography
Marcia Ball was born in Orange, Texas and raised in Vinton, Louisiana — right on the Texas-Louisiana border, where blues, R&B, zydeco, and country intersect. Her piano style draws on Professor Longhair's New Orleans rumba-blues, the boogie-woogie tradition, and the Gulf Coast sound, making her one of the most compelling voices in contemporary blues. She has won multiple Blues Music Awards including the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year Award and was long a regular and beloved presence at Jazz Fest. In October 2025, Ball announced she had been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and would retire from touring and performing; in 2026 she was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
