Juice was founded by bassist and vocalist Dave Jordan in 1996 at Louisiana State University, where the band quickly claimed the mantle of the school's then-burgeoning jam band scene in Baton Rouge. After exploding onto the New Orleans music scene in 1998, Juice built a reputation as one of the premier national touring acts to emerge from the city's legendary funk tradition.
Through nearly constant touring and strong word of mouth, Juice built a solid national fan base and received critical acclaim for its original mix of New Orleans-style funk, blues, second line, rock, and rhythm and blues. Beyond maintaining a steady presence on the New Orleans club scene, the band has averaged roughly 160 shows a year since 1999, performing at premier festivals, theaters, and clubs across the country, with highlight performances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2000 and 2001.
