Louisiana Soul, from the Church to American Idol

Jovin Webb was born and raised in Louisiana — a Gonzales native — and grew up around church music, playing drums in the gospel band of his local Baptist church. Back home, he became a fixture on the music scene from Baton Rouge to New Orleans, performing five to six shows a week.

In 2020, Webb's soulful audition of the Allman Brothers' “Whipping Post” carried him to the top 10 on American Idol's 18th season. Lionel Richie told him, “You officially brought the barbecue sauce to American Idol,” and Luke Bryan added, “It's something only Louisiana could create.”

"Jovin's music radiates soulful Louisiana blues, and his combination of passion, talent, and heart is contagious."

— Jeff Schroedl, Blind Pig Records

Webb signed a multi-record deal with Blind Pig Records, releasing his debut Drifter in 2024 and following it with Son of a Sinner on September 18, 2026 — an eleven-song collection produced by Tom Hambridge in Nashville. A vocalist who also plays harmonica, guitar, and piano, he is booked at the New Orleans Jazz Market on October 2, 2026.
