Carrying the family harmony

Chapman is the daughter of the late New Orleans vocalist Topsy Chapman and a member of Solid Harmony, the family vocal group her mother founded. The group — featuring sisters Yolanda Windsay and Jolynda “Kiki” Chapman, plus Yolanda's son Caleb Windsay — is a staple of the city's jazz, blues, and gospel scene, known for swing harmonies backed by an all-star New Orleans band, and returns to the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music on December 1, 2026.

Raised in the gospel tradition, Chapman has made her own place in the jazz scene with performances alongside Harry Shearer, Melissa Etheridge, and Stanton Moore. Moore put her front and center on his 2017 Allen Toussaint tribute With You in Mind: she sings lead on “All These Things” and background vocals across the album. Moore later said the first time he heard her sing, in his headphones during recording, “the hair on my arms and the back of my neck literally started standing up.”
