Cuba Meets the Crescent City

Over a 30-year career, Cuban guitarist and producer Javier Olondo has performed at important festivals and concert venues across Europe, North America, and South America, and earned a master’s degree from the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. Several composers have written pieces specifically for him to perform.

AsheSon blends Cuban rhythms and Latin stylings with New Orleans flavor. The band is a fixture at local clubs and festivals — including French Quarter Fest — and has appeared at the Monterey and Newport Jazz Festivals. Olondo’s honors include Guitarist of the Year at the Global Excellence Awards, a Big Easy Award for Best Latin Band, the Keys to the City of Kenner, and Honorary Citizen of the City of New Orleans.

Beyond the bandstand, Olondo directs and coordinates Tulane University’s guitar department, serves as artistic director of the New Orleans International Guitar Festival, and hosts the TV show Que Pasa TV.
