Jamie Lynn Vessels grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, torn between a career in criminal justice and her passion for music. Music won, and it brought her to New Orleans, which WWOZ calls her 'artistic home' — the city where she has been honing her sound ever since.
WWOZ describes her voice as 'as sweet as it is raw,' and her music as a blend of rock, blues, and Americana with strong hints of soul and folk. In 2013 she released a self-titled EP on her own independent label — four tracks ('Casanova No More,' 'Don't Look Back,' 'I'm Holding Up,' 'Catch The Wind') cut with a band including drummer Shad Gilmore, guitarist Shane Theriot, bassist Casandra Faulconer, Paul Longstreth on B3, and fiddler Gina Forsyth.
She was named a Louisiana-based official showcase artist when the Folk Alliance International Conference came to New Orleans, earning a WWOZ Louisiana Artist Spotlight in 2019. Her hard-hitting guitar riffs and unflinching lyrics continue to earn her a devoted following in the Crescent City.
