Biography
Andrews grew up in the Tremé alongside his younger brother Troy (Trombone Shorty) in a household saturated with New Orleans music. He began playing trumpet young and quickly established himself as a force on the local scene, leading his Crescent City All Stars through the clubs and festivals that define the city's musical life. His nickname pays tribute to his Armstrong-influenced sound — big, warm, celebratory, and deeply rooted in the New Orleans tradition of music as community. While his brother went on to national stardom, James has remained committed to the city itself, becoming one of the indispensable figures in its ongoing musical life.
