Jazz Vocals 1950s–Present New Orleans LA

GermaineBazzle

The First Lady of New Orleans Jazz, Germaine Bazzle is one of the greatest jazz vocalists the city has produced — a singer of extraordinary craft and feeling whose voice carries the warmth, wit, and deep musicality of the New Orleans tradition in every phrase.

Germaine Bazzle

Bazzle grew up in the Seventh Ward, studied at Xavier, and spent decades teaching at Xavier Prep while building a performing career that has made her a legend on the local scene. Influenced by Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald, she developed a vocal style of remarkable sophistication — capable of tender ballads, swinging standards, and adventurous scat improvisation, often within the same performance. Her recordings, though few, capture an artist of the highest order. At Jazz Fest she is an annual institution, drawing the city's most knowledgeable jazz fans to what is always one of the most moving performances of the weekend.
