The King of Bounce

Jerome Temple grew up in the St. Thomas housing development and started DJing block parties, building a high-energy, call-and-response style that became his signature. Signed to the fledgling Take Fo' label, he broke through in 1994 with “Stop, Pause (Do the Jubilee All),” a record that called out a laundry list of locally popular dances.

His records — “Get Ready, Ready!,” “Take It to the St. Thomas” (1998), “Do Yo Thang Girl!” (2000), and the original “Back That Thang Up” — made his family-friendly dance bounce a staple across the Gulf Coast. He is credited with the first recorded use of the word “twerk,” and Beyoncé later used his “Get Ready, Ready!” in her song “Before I Let Go.”

Jubilee also works as a special education teacher and coach, and he performs with the Bounce Royalty collaboration alongside Cheeky Blakk and Choppa.
