Dinosaurchestra

New Orleans, LA — Active

Dinosaurchestra is the brainchild of trumpeter and vocalist Reid Poole, a band of young New Orleans musicians who cut their teeth on Frenchmen Street. Established in 2014, the group started as a mostly trad and swing jazz band and grew into a broader sound that folds in soul, funk, Caribbean, and straight-ahead jazz. They remain very active in New Orleans with weekly residencies.

Swinging the Whole Crescent City

Dinosaurchestra is the brainchild of trumpeter and vocalist Reid Poole, who relocated to New Orleans after a master's from the Eastman School of Music and became a fixture of the city's music community. The band — Oliver Bonie on alto sax, trombonist Miles Lyons, bassist Nobu Ozaki, guitarist Brett Gardner, keyboardist Steve Detroy, and drummer Ronan Cowan — plays a rich mixture of Crescent City sounds, from Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Duke Ellington to Fats Domino and New Orleans rhythm and blues, with classical touches.

The group holds weekly residencies at d.b.a. and the Marigny Brasserie and is popular on the festival circuit. Their recordings include est. 2014, New Orleans (2014), Weather Bird, the live set 'Something Like That' recorded at the Tigermen Den, and the most recent album New Orleans Run, a mix of originals and smartly-arranged covers.

Still swinging, Dinosaurchestra continues to hold its New Orleans residencies and tour beyond the bayou. Their five-release Bandcamp discography is available for streaming and purchase, and their newest material keeps blending trad roots with funkier, deeper grooves.
